Fundraiser – PAC 2 with integrated PDF/UA-Check
Help us to develop the first ever software tool to check PDF documents for their compliance with the PDF/UA Standard.

The new ISO Standard PDF/UA sets a globally unified foundation for the characteristics of accessible PDF documents. We want to support this effort by enhancing our freely available PDF Accessibility Checker (PAC) with a Check for PDF/UA compliance. But we aren't able to make this on our own - We need your support!
Our goal
In cooperation with our development partner xyMedia and building on the already existing PAC version, we aim to release the new PAC Version 2, incorporating the new PDF/UA Compliance Check. The software shall be made available free of charge to everyone.
For the coding of a first version, which will run under Windows, we need to raise CHF 26'000. Additionally, we'd like to provide an OS X compatible version, which to develope will cost another CHF 12'000.

Project deadline extended
Against our hopes, the amount of all donations towards the PAC 2.0 project did not reach the set goal of CHF 26'000.--. the still impressive amount of CHF 14'000.-- encourages us however to continue persuing our idea. The "Access For All" fundation has therefore decided to extend the deadline of the fundraiser until March 1st, 2012 and to try, once more, to collect donations of at least CHF 26'000.-- until that date. Of course, the expected release date of the new PAC version 2.0 had to be moved accordingly. We now estimate its availability around June 1st, 2012. We would like to take the opportunity to thank all businesses and private customers who already support the further development of PAC 2.0 by making a donation. If you are a PAC user yourself and if you like what it does, this may be the perfect time to make a donation of any amount you like to support the development of an independent PDF testing tool.
PAC - A success story
PAC „PDF Accessibility Checker 1.2“ is the first (and only) tool for checking the accessibility of PDF documents incorporating an HTML preview of the structured document ("Screen Reader Preview"). PAC is being provided free of charge by the Swiss Non-Profit Organization "Access for All". So far, PAC versions in German and English have been downloaded more than 5'000 times.
PAC has been recommended as an important tool for quality assurance by the German BITV and the international WCAG 2.0.
New features in PAC 2
PAC has already been able to check for 14 accessibility criteria, all of which are closely related to those defined in the WCAG 2.0. Together with the ISO Standard for Accessible PDF Documents - PDF/UA - which has been announced to be published in the first quarter of 2012, PAC 2 is going to be enhanced with a specific test for PDF/UA compliance. The aim is to provide the PDF community with a free tool which will enable them to produce accessible PDF documents according to this worldwide ISO standard

How will your donation be used?
The donations are being used for the further development of the PAC Software Tool. This includes the cooperation with and consultancy by blind and visually impaired Accessibility Specialists working at "Access for All".
The donations surpassing our set goal will be used to finance the further distribution, maintenance and development of PAC 2 and to finance the education of people with disabilities in the area of accessibility. Should we, against our expectations, not reach our goal, the collected donations will found our efforts to provide education to people with disabilities.
