Accessibility
Accessibility puts people at its centre and is a process of continuous development. Become a part of it! Technology can help to remove barriers, but it can also create new ones - the “Access for All” foundation is an initiative that helps to overcome these obstacles.
In recent years the information society has become increasingly established throughout the world. As a result of this, e-mail and the internet have become essential in both the business sector and our private lives.
Thanks to special developments in hardware and software, people with disabilities can also participate in this revolutionary change in society. This applies particularly to people who are blind or visually impaired, many of whom can benefit from visual information thanks to screen reading and screen magnification programmes. For example, it is now possible to plan a holiday using an online holiday brochure, including reservations and buying tickets. Previously this was only possible for many people with various different disabilities with external help.
The new communication technologies, however, have an inherent risk of exclusion: it is increasingly common for certain information to be only available online, to the detriment of those who cannot access the internet. Many people across the world are involved in making the internet as accessible as possible; as part of companies, institutions, as developers, designers and as independents.
